Banapple, more than just Pies and Cheesecakes

  I am sure most of you have tried eating at Banapple. First time I ate there with my blockmates I had their Banoffee Pie. It was love at first taste. Banapple takes pride in their pies and cheesecakes. But more than that, I also love their rice meals. Reasonable price and very generous serving. This post is a compilation of some of the dishes we have tried in Banapple.

Herbed Chicken Rolls with Basil Cream Sauce - Php185

Crusted chicken stuffed with ham and cheese. The meat was tender and the sauce was really good, it went well with the chicken breast.

Breaded Fillet of Cream Dory with Honey Thyme Mustard Sauce - Php185

This used to be my favorite because I love cream dory. It leaves in my mouth the taste of honey thyme mustard. I love it.

Crisp Pork Scallopini with Sour Cream Barbecue Sauce - Php180

The pork was indeed succulent and golden crispy. The sour cream and barbecue sauce matched the meat well. 

Baked Fish Gratinee with Scalloped Potatoes - Php185

My new favorite dish from Banapple! Two things I love here - fish and potatoes. Everything was cooked to perfection. Very creamy and the fish melts in my mouth. 

Hallow Mallow Pie - Php110

This was one cute looking dessert. It was their special pie for Halloween but I think they still serve it. It was actually a S'mores pie. And I tell you. It was soooooooooo good. The marshmallow had a  sweet gooey taste. The grahams were soft with a nice sweet glaze. Of course the Oreo crust was perfect. Nothing goes wrong with Oreo anyway. Combine the grahams, toasted mallow, Oreo and chocolate fudge you get a perfect treat for anytime of the year. Highly recommended!!!!

Apple Caramel Crumble Pie - Php100

Last but not the least is the Apple Caramel Crumble Pie. Just look at the picture. It tells you everything already. The apple, caramel and the crust balanced out the whole texture and taste of the pie. Loved it!!

To sum it all up, everything in this post are CRAVE HITS. Banapple serves great food with generous servings and freshly baked pies and cheesecakes. Sweet Tooth Satisfaction at Swensen's

  Is there anyone in the world who hates sweets? If there is, then something is seriously wrong with him. I mean, there is no reason to not like these treats. They give every meal a perfect ending. Most specially ice creams! It is sweet and it is cold. Perfect for our tropical climate.

  Swensen's has been in the Philippines for two years already. Geraldine and I have visited their Eastwood branch multiple times since it opened. It was a nice experience. Cozy interior. Great lighting. Accommodating staff.

Fondue for Two - Php340

Order#1 - Fondue for Two

  Four scoops of ice cream (your choice), mango and banana. Served with warm chocolate fondue. Our mini ice cream scoops were Macadamia, Blueberry Cobbler, Strawberry Cheesecake and Wild@Heart, all of which were great even without the chocolate. The mango was not sweet though. For 340pesos this might be a little expensive considering there are only four mini scoops, a banana and a sour ripe mango. BUT all the scoops are HITs.

Apparently, Geraldine's spoon is longer than mine because she ordered a large bowl of ice cream. No height jokes here.

Oreo Brownie - Php265

   So this was Geraldine's Oreo Brownie Basket. I think there were two scoops of ice cream served with brownies, Oreo and banana. Topped with chocolate syrup and almonds. Nothing much to say other than Geraldine enjoyed every bit of it. Safe to say this is a HIT.

Frosted Choc Malt Fantasy - Php285

  I ordered this because I love Maltesers. They are crunchy on the outside but chocolatey inside. This sundae was good but it lacked Maltesers. There were only a few. About five maybe? And I wanted more! It felt like I did not get what I paid for. It was good though. No doubt about that. So we declare this a CRAVE HIT.

  Our latest trip to Swensen's involved the Happy Sundaes. We tried them because they were cheap (99pesos) compared to their usual 200++ prices. We ordered their Happy Mango and Happy Strawberry.

Meanwhile, here are some pictures to show you what food photography can do:

  Each sundae only has one scoop of ice cream. Nevertheless we enjoyed them. Geraldine ordered mango and I ordered strawberry. But we liked the other's ice cream more so we ended up switching sundaes. She loved the strawberry-banana combo. I however love the mango-sticky rice-corn flakes combo. It reminded me of Cerealicious' Jumango minus the sticky rice. What I liked about the sticky rice was that it balanced out the flavor and texture of the sundae. CRAVE HITS!!!!

  Swensen's also make great milkshakes. Try everything out and end your day with a sweet flavorful treat :)

Battle of the Donuts: J. Co VS Krispy Kreme

   Filipinos cannot help but compare the newcomer J. CO donuts to the famous Krispy Kreme donuts. KK as we all know came from the US. We all love their signature Original Glazed. Very soft and sweet glazed dough. J. CO has their own version of this too but I find it rather bland. Their strength however lies in their famous Al Capone, those donuts with belgian white chocolate and plenty of almonds on top. I do not like it because I do not like nuts on my desserts. Geraldine on the other hand LOVES it. I think she can finish a dozen of those in one sitting. Not an exaggeration. I have also read in some food blogs that their donuts go well with their Jcoccino (hot or frappe). Haven't tried it though.

    To be honest, I am totally not a fan of J.CO. I like my donuts really sweet. I have a really really really sweet tooth and I just find J.CO's treats lacking that sweetness I look for in desserts. However people love it because it has unique flavors and cute names. Just look at some of the cute donut names: Coco Loco, Forest Glam, Mona Risa, Berry Spears and the list goes on. They even look very enticing. Another advantage is that they are cheaper than their Western counterpart. 42/Piece, 230/half dozen, 350/one dozen and 550/two dozens.  

Krispy Kreme

   Moving on to Krispy Kreme, their donuts are definitely sweeter than J.CO's. All their glazes in all their flavors are exactly the sweetness that I want. Another thing I love about KK is their melt-in-your-mouth dough. J.CO's are also soft but I like KK's because their donuts are thicker in my opinion. Even just their Original Glazed is enough. I can eat a dozen of those in one sitting. No exaggeration.

Their other flavors are too sweet that if you eat more than three you might get a little bit dizzy from too much sugar. It happened to me two years ago. HAHA. Still, I'll choose this over J.CO or Dunkin donuts or Mister Donuts or any other donut shop in the Philippines. Only downside is that it is expensive. And the price seems to increase every year. I remember about two years ago I bought one dozen original and one dozen assorted for Php590. Now it will cost you more than Php600 to get a dozen of Original Glazed and a dozen of assorted flavors.

So that's it. My brief comparison of the two. I gave you my pick which is Krispy Kreme. Geraldine will have either of them. LOL. What about you? Which do you like more? Krispy Kreme or J.CO?
