Hainanese Delights @ Robinsons Metro East |
Once we sat down we were served
with house soup. I think it is some kind of stock. I am not sure if it is
chicken stock but it surely made the soup flavorful. We also noticed three
containers which contained different kinds of sauce: chili, soy sauce, and
ginger.
The Hainanese Delight (white
chicken) was okay. What made it tasty was its sauce. I do not know what it is
made of but it has this sweet salty taste. The rice that this restaurant is so
proud of was disappointing. Their rice is supposed to be “bursting with flavors”.
I, however, did not taste the flavors they were so proud of. There was a little
bit of ginger in there. I could taste it. I do not know about the other flavors
but it surely was not bursting with it. It just goes to show that affordability
compromises the quality.
The other dish we had was the
Bite of Both which consists of shrimp and pork dumplings. There were six small
dumplings on the plate. They did not look like for “unlimited rice” purposes. We
liked the fried dumplings. I am not a fan of steamed dumplings so I asked
Geraldine what she thought about them. She told me that she would rather go to
Siomai House, cheaper and tastes better. It is not that the dumplings tasted
awful but they did not taste good either. The soy sauce that went along with the dumplings had a sweet taste in it.
Hainanese Delights does not live
up to its promise of offering flavorful Hainan rice. For us we would rather go to other fastfood chains and get better tasting chicken and dumplings for the same price. However, if you want to
taste something different at an affordable price maybe you can give this place
a go.
